WAFERLOCK electronic door handles can operate autonomously or via a smartphone and mobile application, providing a high level of security, convenient access management, and flexible access settings for different users.

Unlike WAFERLOCK electronic cylinders, door handles control only the latch of the lock and do not require replacement of the existing mechanical locking mechanism.

How the WAFERLOCK System Works

The operating principle of WAFERLOCK electronic door handles is identical to that of WAFERLOCK electronic cylinders, including:

🔹 Autonomous Mode

The electronic handle operates without an internet connection or external systems.
Access is granted using MIFARE cards or PIN codes; access history and schedules are not stored.

Programming is performed using a special programming card (model L730-EU) or a master code (model L701).

🔹 Smartphone Control via Bluetooth

Using the Waferkey mobile application, the user can:

  • add and remove users,
  • assign temporary or permanent access,
  • configure access schedules,
  • manage multiple locks simultaneously,
  • view access history,
  • change lock settings and monitor battery level,
  • send a digital key to another user’s smartphone (convenient for Airbnb).

This mode makes the system especially convenient for Airbnb hosts, hotels, and offices where fast and secure access management without physical key handover is essential.

🔹 Remote Control via the Internet

Model L701 supports remote control via the internet using the Gateway R400 device.
The same Waferkey application is used; the smartphone only requires an internet connection.

🔹 Airbnb and Short-Term Rentals

WAFERLOCK electronic door handles allow hosts to issue temporary access for a defined period, automatically blocking access after the rental ends. This is convenient, secure, and eliminates the need for in-person key handover.

With the Gateway R400 installed, the host does not need to be near the lock — a PIN code can be configured remotely and sent to the guest along with check-in instructions.

The WAFERLOCK product line includes two electronic door handle models — L701 and L730-EU, which differ in functionality, supported access methods, and application scenarios.

  • Model L701 — an advanced version supporting PIN code, card, and smartphone access; optional two-factor authentication (card + PIN) and remote control via Gateway R400.
  • Model L730-EU — a compact version for European doors; easy installation and operation. Does not support PIN codes or remote control.
